The Fittest Games 2011

Last weekend I competed in The Fittest Games at Crossfit Central. This was my first crossfit competition, and I knew my chances of placing in the top 10 was very slim.  I was going head to head with some of the strongest, fastest women in the sport.  So, I went in with the mindset to have fun, gain experience and do my personal best.

Mission accomplished.  I had a great time competing, even though I was exhausted by the last workout and was not up for it.  I learned a lot about myself as an athlete and a competitor.  I now have a better understanding of my strengths and weaknesses.  I managed to pull a top 10 finish after the 3rd WOD (workout of the day); however, the last WOD got the best of me.  I can't help but think that maybe if I had a better attitude going into the workout, I may have held onto to that #10 spot.

You LIVE AND LEARN. All in all, I can't wait for the next competition. I have a whole new perspective on training.  Coach Big Mike, It's time to get some work done.

Best part of The Fittest Games was competing alongside a group of amazing, inspiring women.

LIFT gets a Makeover

New look, same great quality.  I made the executive decision that LIFT Fitness needed a new and improved look.  I wanted a logo that was bold, yet simple.  I consulted with a fellow Master Mind Fight Clubber and Crossfitter, Erika Jeanne. She is an amazing artist and graphic designer. Check out her t-shirts HERE!  They are brilliant.  Anyway, I told her what I wanted for my logo and here is what she came up with:

I LOVE it!  I couldn't be happier with this design.  I think it fits my personality and my business perfectly.  I am ready to hit the printing presses for biz cards, shirts, postcards and stickers.  The new logo is just the beginning for LIFT Fitness.  It just needed a fresh start and a makeover.

For those who may not know what my previous logo looked like, here it is:

Thanks again Erika for all your help!

Goal Setting...all the cool kids are doing it.

If you want to make things happen in your life, you have to set GOALS.  I have learned goal setting from the best, Carey Kepler. Here is how it works in a nutshell:

  • Make a list of things you want to accomplish in 2011.  That list becomes your goals. Do NOT be afraid to go big.  I've recently learned that "big risks, equal BIG REWARDS."
  • Then, divide your goals into 1 month, 3 month, 6 month and 12 month deadlines.
  • Next, assign an action to each of your goals. This is something that you will do daily, weekly, monthly, etc to help you reach your goal, as well as keep you on track.
  • Finally, tell someone (or several people) about your goals.  It is extremely important to have people hold you accountable for achieving your goals. You don't go through life alone, so find yourself an accountability partner and make shit happen!

It's that time of year again

The Holidays are here, and for most of us this time of year means friends, family and food, food, food... followed by New Years Resolutions.  The most common New Years Resolutions are, Diet and Exercise.  For my profession this is AWESOME; However, people go about it the wrong way. They decide they are going to try some crazy, impossible diet or whatever the latest "fad diet" may be...and trust me there will be some new ones popping up soon.  I'm sure there are many people out there that have found a program that works for them and have made the lifestyle change.  But for most of the population, it's a super fail.  Don't be a victim to "fad diets" or weight loss/exercise gimmicks (ie the shake weight).  The following videos are all you need to know about losing weight, getting fit and living a long and healthy life.

Take on Challenges

"The end is never the end. A new challenge awaits. A test no man could be prepared for. A new hell he must conquer and destroy. A new level of growth he must confront himself. The machine in the ghost within. This is the journey of the man on the moon." - Kid Cudi "Up Up & Away"

We may be crazy, but we'll have fun in the process.  There are several Crossfit Central coaches and members that are part of the "100 Day Burpee Challenge."

For the rules and regulations of the "100 Day Burpee Challenge," check out the blog She's Always Sunny.

MelisaKaren and I decided to join forces and record our day 25 of burpees together.  This is the fun part of the challenge.

Enjoy!

Titia Arledge's Before and After

Titia is one of the greatest women I have ever met.  She is selfless, generous, strong (physically and mentally) and has the BIGGEST heart.  She always showed up with a smile and ready to work, and she worked HARD.  I feel honored that she chose me as her trainer. She definitely made me look good!

Before
After

Titia's Testimonial:

Personal training with Jessica has and will continue to uplift my self image and confidence and instilling a positive body image that I have never known and most of all to set and reach athletic goals I would have NEVER thought possible in my lifetime.  As an accomplished athlete herself, Jessica positively encourages, diligently instructs and creatively challenges my physical abilities to levels I never could have achieved on my own!  Jessica has given me the tools I need to build lean muscle mass, which definitely “takes up less space” in jeans going from sizes 16-18 down to a size 6!!  The phrase “…oh she is just big boned” no longer applies as the excuse for my excess weight, nor does “…oh for a tall girl she carries her weight well”.  With Jessica, a very disciplined role model and understanding support, I whole-heartedly decided to break those limiting words; maximizing the resources she provided and began my journey of combining great nutrition, regular training and a heart rate monitor that showed me the calories I was burning, all 42 pounds!  Regular workouts with Jessica has set me on a path from a person who had no regular exercise at all to becoming an avid cyclist with century rides, a duathalon and one triathlon all within the first year and half of training with her.

Thank You Titia for all your hard work and dedication!
